Archbishop outside Presidential Palace after meeting with Anastasiades |
Archbishop Chrysostomos II of the Cypriot Orthodox
Church, which owns businesses and a lot of land in Cyprus, met with
Anastasiades yesterday, 20th March, to offer to financial assistance
in the form of mortgages on church-owned properties. Members of the Church often donate and will their lands to the Church which has amassed so much immovable property in Cyprus it is said to be the largest landowner on the island nation. The Church even compensates its mural painters with plots of land.
It is believed that Troika rejected
this scenario on the grounds that it is inside financing, which Troika finds unacceptable
