Cypriot Greek Orthodox Church Offers to Assist Cyprus Government; Troika Says No

 Archbishop Chrysostomos II of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, which owns businesses and a lot of land in Cyprus, met with Anastasiades yesterday, 20th March, to offer to financial assistance in the form of mortgages on church-owned properties. Members of the Church often donate and will their lands to the Church which has amassed so much immovable property in Cyprus it  is said to be the largest landowner  on the island nation. The Church even compensates its mural painters with plots of land.

It is believed that Troika rejected this scenario on the grounds that it is inside financing, which Troika finds unacceptable
